We depart from San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca around 7:30 in the morning. Our journey takes us along National Route 38, where we pass by the historic train stations of Miraflores, Huillapima, and Chumbicha.
Continuing our adventure, we enter the scenic Quebrada de la Cébila. Our next stop is Aimogasta, located in the province of La Rioja. This charming mountain town greets us with its stunning natural beauty, vineyards, and expansive olive groves. Just 4 kilometers away, in Arauco, stands a 400-year-old olive tree, a living testament to the origins of olive cultivation in Argentina.
Leaving Cerro Negro behind, we reach London, a historic settlement recognized as the first city in Catamarca. With nearly 400 years of history, this town transports us back in time. From there, we proceed to the El Shincal Ruins, a significant archaeological site with many mysteries yet to be unveiled. A knowledgeable guide will share insights about this remarkable reserve of indigenous heritage.
Our expedition continues to Belén, a quaint town renowned for its high-quality crafts, particularly llama and vicuña textiles. We will visit local weavers to observe the creation of these garments on traditional indigenous looms. We will pause for a lunch break (not included).
After our break, we'll explore the Quebrada de Belén, where nature has blessed the area with streams and willow groves. The flowing waters contrast beautifully with the vividly colored stones, crafting a breathtaking landscape.
We then follow the sun's path to reach the Puerta de San José, a charming village known for its pleasant microclimate, perfect for rejuvenating the spirit and enjoying warm summer days.
