Ruins Of The Shincal Of Quimivil

Our journey to the Shincal Ruins of Quimivil takes us through a series of breathtaking landscapes. Along the way, we will travel beside the Colorado River, whose scenic surroundings create unforgettable views.

We will also visit Cerro Negro, a mountain in the province of Catamarca, Argentina. Rising approximately 5,700 meters above sea level, it is one of the highest peaks in the region. The mountain takes its name from the dark color of its stones and volcanic rocks, which give it a truly distinctive appearance.

As we approach our main destination, we will pass through London, the second-oldest city in Argentina (founded in 1588), and then continue toward Santiago del Estero. From here, we are already alongside National Route 40, at the foot of the Shincal mountain range and close to the Quimivil River.

We are now in the department of Belén. Following the gorge of the Quimivil River along Route 40, we will reach this historic and significant archaeological site in Catamarca: the Shincal Ruins of Quimivil. This remarkable site was the southernmost city of the Inca Empire.

After exploring the ruins, we will begin the return journey, traveling approximately 140 km along the same route until we arrive at our accommodation in Tinogasta.
